Welcome to the GESA Colonoscopy Recertification Program

The program provides for triennial recertification. It is designed to support practitioners in:

  • maintaining their expertise in colonoscopy;
  • continuing to develop their skills through subsidised training opportunities and
  • implementing the Colonoscopy Clinical Care Standard to increase safety and the quality of care being delivered to patients.

Hospitals and day facilities must ensure that their practitioners are recertified to meet the new requirements of the National Safety and Quality Health Service Standards for their accreditation.

The program has been developed over several years and brings Australia into line with international trends and with increasing consumer expectations regarding medical professionals.

Participation in the program is limited to colonoscopists practising in Australia and who have CCRTGE recognition of their training in adult or paediatric colonoscopy.

The program incorporates:

  • a formal Recertification program based around an online logbook and
  • increased training and education opportunities for practising colonoscopists.

Information about the program, the criteria for recertifying, the Committee, FAQ’s and more is available via the menu at the top of the screen.

We encourage you to participate for your own benefit, for the benefit of the general gastroenterological community and ultimately for the benefit of patients.

The Gastroenterological Society of Australia (GESA) and the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS) are delighted to announce they have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in relation to RACS’ involvement in the GESA Recertification in Colonoscopy Program (RCP).
